Conception Calculator

Estimate your likely conception date based on your pregnancy due date or last menstrual period.

By Last Period By Due Date

How the Conception Date Is Estimated

This calculator estimates your conception date using two common reference points: your pregnancy due date or the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). The estimation relies on a standard 28-day menstrual cycle with ovulation occurring around day 14.

Conception typically happens within a window of about 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. Sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to five days, so intercourse in the days leading up to ovulation is the most likely time for conception to occur.

Estimation from Due Date

If you enter your due date, the calculator subtracts 266 days (38 weeks) from that date. This is the standard gestational age from conception to birth, assuming a full-term pregnancy of 40 weeks from the LMP.

Estimation from Last Menstrual Period

If you enter your LMP, the calculator adds 14 days to estimate the ovulation date. Conception is then assumed to occur within 24 hours of that ovulation date.

Understanding the Results

The date provided is an estimate, not a precise determination. Conception timing is inherently uncertain because:

Use the result as a general reference for understanding your conception window rather than an exact date.

Common Questions About Conception Timing

Why is the conception date approximate?

Most pregnancies are dated from the LMP, which assumes ovulation on day 14. In reality, cycle lengths vary, and ovulation timing shifts. The calculator provides a best estimate based on standard medical assumptions.

Can I use this if I have irregular cycles?

The calculator assumes a 28-day cycle. If your cycles are longer or shorter, the estimated conception date may be less accurate. For irregular cycles, ultrasound dating in early pregnancy provides a more reliable estimate.

What if I know my ovulation date?

If you tracked ovulation using ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperature, or cervical mucus, you can use that date directly. Conception typically occurs within 12 to 24 hours of ovulation.
